Ministers of Environment and Industry witness the signing of an MOU for the establishment of the Animal Protein City in the Jazan region

His Excellency the Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, and Chairman of the National Program for the Development of the Livestock and Fisheries Sector, Eng. Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al-Fadhli, and His Excellency the Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, and Chairman of the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu, Eng. Bandar bin Ibrahim Al-Khorayef, along with His Excellency the Chairman of the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu, Eng. Khalid bin Mohammed Al-Salem, witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the National Program and the Royal Commission to establish the "Animal Protein City" in the Jazan region.

The MoU was signed by Dr. Ali bin Mohammed Al-Sheikhi, CEO of the National Program for the Development of the Livestock and Fisheries Sector, and Dr. Fahd bin Daif Al-Qurashi, CEO of Jazan City for Basic and Transformative Industries, in the presence of various officials, specialists, and executive directors from both sides.

This initiative aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which aims to achieve food security, enhance the agricultural and industrial sectors, increase their contributions to the GDP, boost non-oil exports, and create job opportunities. The focus is on utilizing the country’s livestock and fisheries resources in food industries, improving production efficiency, adding value, and achieving local and global self-sufficiency. The MoU also aims to establish food clusters, improve logistics services for supply chains, create training centers in food industries to develop human capacities, and support entrepreneurs in achieving the ambitious goal of localizing 85% of food industries by 2030.

The decision to establish the Animal Protein City in Jazan City for Basic and Transformative Industries is driven by the region’s unique advantages. Jazan overlooks the Red Sea, connecting it to several continents, facilitating the export of high-quality Saudi food products to Europe, Africa, and East Asia. Additionally, the region has the necessary infrastructure to host several value-added manufacturing industries, addressing local and global demand for quality food products while providing opportunities for entrepreneurs in related sectors such as food processing, packaging, leather, animal feed, and logistics services.
